Highlights: Chris Whalen found the net five times as host Dover-Sherborn cruised to a win over Tri-Valley League foe Ashland in both teams’ first game of the season on March 28.

Whalen also had two assists for the Raiders, and Trevor Pearson added two goals. Goalie Garrett Akie made five saves.


Against Medfield on April 1, Trevor Pearson scored late in regulation to cap a comeback for the Raiders, who trailed, 6-3, at the half, but the Warriors prevailed in double overtime, 7-6. Garrett Akie played well in goal for the Raiders. D-S bounced back on April 8 with a 15-4 victory over Medway. Alex Paganelli scored four goals and added three assists, while Chris Whelan added three goals and three assists. Geoff Akie also netted a hat trick and handed out two assists. Defenseman Sam Johnson also played well for D-S.

After defeating Bellingham on April 11, the Raiders squeaked by Concord-Carlisle, 8-7, in overtime, on April 12. Junior D.J. Doria scored with 53 seconds remaining in overtime to give host Dover-Sherborn the nonleague win. The score was Doria’s third of the contest. Senior goalie Garrett Akie made 16 saves for the Raiders, while classmate Alex Paganelli added two goals. Senior Rafael Ortega also played well on defense for D-S.

Against Holliston on April 14, Garrett Akie made 15 saves as host Dover-Sherborn prevailed, 10-3. Chris Whelan scored four goals for the Raiders, who got two goals and an assist each from Trevor Pearson and Alex Paganelli. In the Raiders’ 9-2 win over Westwood on April 15, Geoff Akie collected four goals and two assists, and twin brother Garrett Akie made 15 saves for the win in net. Alex Paganelli scored a hat trick, and Jordan Racine was a standout on defense for the Raiders, who led 4-1 at the half. Against Hopkinton on April 17, junior attack Chris Whelan had five goals and two assists to lead the Raiders past the Hillers, 11-5. D-S also got goals from Alex Paganelli (two goals, assist), Geoff Akie (goal, two assists), Charlie Wemyss (goal) and Jordan Racine (two assists). Goalie Garrett Akie recorded 13 saves.

Against Cohasset in a nonleague game on April 24, senior Geoff Akie scored four goals and two assists, but it didn’t prevent host Dover-Sherborn from dropping an 11-9 contest to the defending state Division 3 champions. The Raiders also got scoring from Chris Whelan (2 goals, assist), DJ D’Auria (2 goals, assist) and Trevor Pearson (goal). Senior goaltender Garrett Akie stopped 15 shots. The Raiders hit a rough patch as April turned to May, dropping an 11-7 nonleague decision to Walpole on April 26, then getting edged by Medfield, 9-7, on May 2. Against Medfield, D-S fell behind, 9-2 early in the fourth quarter before staging a tremendous comeback, only to fall short. Alex Paganelli and Geoff Akie each notched hat tricks, while Garrett Akie made 13 saves. Trevor Pearson also scored for D-S, while Rafael Ortega played well on defense.

The Raiders blanked Ashland, 15-0, on May 5. Garrett Akie and Jeff Williams combined to shut out Ashland. P.D. Caruso had two goals and Trevor Pearson had a goal and an assist for the Raiders, who had 10 different players score. Against Holliston on May 6, junior midfielder Trevor Pearson scored two goals and handed out two assists for Dover-Sherborn as it knocked off the Panthers, 11-4. Senior midfielder Alex Paganelli scored once and added one helper for the Raiders, while junior Ned Maselli played great on defense and was stellar on face-offs. Senior captain Raef Ortega also had a solid day defensively, as did goaltender Garrett Akie.
